Pokemon Go

I know some of you nerds are playing. What level are you at now? What pokes are you using to destroy gyms or are you focusing more on filling out your pokedex? I was never into pokemon before so I don't know what types and moves are stronger to battle with.

The tracking issues are pretty annoying right now but I'm sure that will be resolved soon. There is a web app that will show you where some are spawning though and how long the spawn site will be active for.

The best thing for me right now is going outside and getting some exercise. I'm averaging 15,000 steps a day now hiking around with my girlfriend. We'll farm pokes then take some gyms down before going home every night. The social aspect of it is great too. We're meeting a lot of people and everyone is genuinely nice while playing. We'll talk shit to each other about their team in good fun, then walk around calling our where the pokemon are to help each other out. #teamvalor #redordead

I hit level 21 yesterday and evolved a CP1600 Vaporeon during lunch today. #nerdshit

Haven't played it yet and probably won't. But the dudes at my work walk all over the building looking for Pokemon. My job is at a teaching facility where students are learning how to be dentists. Hard to learn stuff or teach if the faculty is walking around trying to catch em all lol!

I work at a University. We have both a major movie shooting here right now and Pokemon madness going down.

Now seeing a cross between students and the movie crew searching out pokemon around campus.

    Interesting times.

Im not into this at all.
But hey if it helps people become more active and social then I can't hate.
Saw some touching scenes at a children's hospital where they the staff where using it to help motivate the sick kids to move around.

Me and a buddy were getting a coffee at like midnight in Parkdale (Toronto). Long story short, two dudes run after other two dudes into the Tim Hortons and about a minute later the cops show up. the dudes who were chasing the guys were escorted in handcuffs. Turns out they lured them into an alley by dropping a Pokemon there and then pulled up on them trying to rob em.

Side note - There was a shooting around King & Dufferin tonight. Hope none of that is connected.

I saw a bunch of Pokemon Go related memes so downloaded the game to see what the heck it was about.

The next day on the front page of The Guardian there was an "Everything you need to know about Pokemon Go" article. This is when I decided it was uncool as fuk. App deleted.

Apparently the Clinton campaign has adopted the strategy of using the game to bring people to voter registration sites, and it's working.

I imagine whichever staffer came up with that is getting a raise soon.

I personally have zero interest... but I'm old enough that I was already an adult before Pokemon became popular, so it's not really aimed at me anyway. I'm more concerned about the people getting so distracted that they're falling off cliffs and getting hit by cars... or playing the game while driving (because texting wasn't bad enough).

    Parallels with record moves...

a pokestop is a rekkid stow.
finding a rare Pokemon away from a stop, with no lures is like flicking thru the small rack at the thrift and finding Tubby Hayes 'Down in the Village'.
the Gym is eBay, you battle against all comers on the bidding war.
Evolving a p-mon is like minting up.

Would love it if the programmers just for shits and giggles placed highly desirable pokemons all along the Grand Canyon rim just out of reach.

I was hip to Ingress, having read a few articles about the creepy "let's see how much they'll share for free" Google project that turned into a capture the flag game. There were hot spots in my neighborhood where I'd see lonely weirdos zapping aliens at all hours of the day. That one fizzled out last year, only to seemingly return with a vengeance one weekend last month, same time as I heard about Pokemon Go. I looked into it and thought, "hmm, sounds like they just re-skinned Ingress for Pokemon." I was right.
Still looking for someone to be impressed by this detective work.

ONE: it has obviously been the first thing that's pushed a lot of people to feel old. This calms me. Welcome to the club.

1b: And tweeting that you think Pokemon Go is a bunch of dummies walking around staring at their phones wasting their lives?--the height of arrogant disconnectedness. That's all anybody's been doing for the past five years! Sent from my iPad.

2ndly: gameplay seems weak. If you could put your pokemons up, for keepsies, against other players, it'd make more sense to me. But from what I understand there are no stakes, no PvP battles, no winners no losers. WTF kind of game is that?

III: it's a scavenger hunt. In which people have written their own programs to help them locate all the treasures. Huh? And they're mad the developers are shutting that down? Sounds like you want geocaching or something else. I guess that's what we do. Gotta catch em all. Seems really American, like how we are proud of visiting every country in Europe in 15 days or whatever. I dunno, I'm all for the unforeseen economies that arise within games--from the gamesmanship of working the refs to role playing within MMPORGGPORGGs, but a treasure map in a scavenger hunt seems so counter to the spirit of the game...

Also: people seem to be enjoying it. The stories of people dying by falling off cliffs and getting lured to mug-spots are great. Go for it.

Ok so just back from a week in Eurodisney, and colour me shook there was no rare pokedudes to be had. Nada. Nitto. Nish.
Is this some old/new kid franchise stand off?

Also I went on that Tower of Terror and Power and Doom Rage thing, and it was not fun. See also: the Nemo ride.
    Stomach still in turmoil.

My 8 year old son is really into it, the ap is on my phone so I help him by grabbing stuff from stops when ever I can. He was already a very active kid, but I can definitely see benefits for kids that are used to sitting around playing games. The other night we met a bunch of people walking around our neighborhood  all playing which is something fairly un usual in this day and age.

Pretty much. I still see a lot of people playing but no where near like it was after it came out. The fever is gone.

Deleted it after week 2. Utterly banal, the epitome of fad.

I got as far as level 2, then deleted it shortly after. Just busy doing other things.

I have a fair walk either end of my commute so I still kind of half heartedly visit it if I'm just amblin along. The lack of any real updates is pretty appalling though. Sure, it'S standard practice to release half finished items these days but it's also genuinely good practice to keep supporting F2P games past day 1.

I sort of hate it. And hate myself for giving it time.

My son is still playing it, but I have to say I can see the novelty wearing off quickly, we have seen one new pokemon in 2 weeks and that one we couldnt catch despite 4-5 efforts
