Don't mean to spoil the actual countdown, but what do folks think will be in the top 10? Here's my best guesses;

1. Bob James "Two" / Mardi Gras w/o the bells, etc...
2. Stark Reality "Discovers Hoagy Charmichael's Music Shop"
3. Wu-Tang "Enter the Wu Tang (36 Chambers)"
4. Marvin Gaye "What's Going On"
5. A Tribe Called Quest "Midnight Marauders"
6. Cymande s/t
7. NWA "Straight Outta Compton"
8. RUN-DMC s/t

9. and 10. I couldn't figure out - maybe an Outkast album (none so far) or J Dilla "Donuts", or maybe a WOF '95 like Skull Snaps

What do you predict?

I will be very surprised if there are more than three rap records in the top ten.

    Ohh, good one.

Could be that some crust sneaks in there too, maybe a Beatles LP or maybe that horrible Van Morrison joint everyone loves.

Yeah, i thought that would at least have cracked the top 10, but its already on the list.

This won't happen, because Van Morrison was never a big subject of discussion on this board, as far as I remember.
Anyway, I really love the whole album this beautiful song is taken from:

Maybe It's time to start a dedicated Van Morrison appreciation thread.

    Sayer is #35.

    Stark Reality #1.

There are 4 women on the list (counting the Sylvers). Any chance of a 5th making the list?

David Crosby Remember My Name and Michael Franks Time for Tea or whatever they are called.

    Is it?

    I thought I didn't see it.

This could be in there, I recall a ton of discussion about it when someone uploaded it in the Real Headz thread and after the reissue.

Ones that haven't been mentioned that I figured would be contenders:

    There's a Riot Going On
    What's Going On
    Off the Wall
    24 Carat Black
    Introducing Marijata
either King of Rock or Raising Hell

I'm guessing that Mulatu Of Ethiopia will be the only African record on the list (and that was recorded in the US).

  • Wait, no Bad Brains?

  • marvin gaye - what's going on
    jon lucien - rashida
james brown - payback or sex machine
parliament - mothership connection or funkentelechy
sly stone- there's a riot or fresh
public enemy - fear of a black planet
    herbie hancock - headhunters
    curtis - superfly

Add The Temptations' Solid Rock and your list is almost perfect in a real world amazing music list.

  • Donny Hathaway Live's gotta be in, right?

  • Too late for Minnie Riperton?

    Off The Wall
    Bob James 2
    My People Hold On
    East of Underground

Those are pretty solid guesses, Off the Wall is definitely in, I thought it was already on the list but that was Thriller. ( but c'mon, Thriller>Off the Wall!)

I hadn't considered Superfly, Mothership Connection, Headhunters or There's a Riot, all conspicuously absent from the list so far...

I'd be glad to see it there but I'd be surprised.
