Ughhhhh, what a terrible fucking list. "Super Bass" might be the worst song of the last few years. Why is this shit always singles too? "I Need A Doctor"? Really :(

  • i am quite happy with the fact that i havent heard one thing on this list....

Glad Pharoe snuck in at 100, that was a great song. Nas "Nasty" is great too should be on every b-boys playlist. Overall I think it's safe to say XXL fell off a long time ago and this reads more like a commerical club chart than a best of "hip-hop" list.

What do y'all expect? For them not to pick the biggest 100 songs of the year? That's what people into rap listen to, along with more underground stuff as well. If you go to clubs and parties deejayed by dudes younger than 25, that's what is being played and enjoyed. And that's the market, one that actually exists, that XXL is catering to. Welcome to the real world.

Its just amazing to me as someone who has pretty much been an avid fan of the genre since approx. 82 that i should find myself looking at a TOP 100 list in 2011 - a year that was full of great releases imo -and am basically incapable of cosigning ANY track on said list. mind. blown.

kreayshwan over tyler - speak on it

What's amazing to me is that you're an avid fan since APPROX. 82 and still give a fuck about lists; especially lists that you know you aren't going to like.

It's speaking to you and not to the list.

Really dude, the 5th element of hip-hop is not a constant state of incredulousness at things outside of your own itzy bitzy, tinily narrow parameters. Hardly anybody likes that true school shit anymore. Just enjoy it yourself, as one of the few and proud, and leave it at that. All this whining about how current hip-hop isn't in line with your own tastes is beyond tired.

I know - I'm my own worst enemy.
I guess a small part of me wishes to click on a top 100 list and see it full to the brink with all boombappy slamadocious retro superscientifical lyricism, bolstering my confidence to strap on my back pack, fill it with blunts, hit the clurbs and step to nicky minaj fanettes in my kani jeans, tims, and hoodie and hook em up with a golden era dose of VD that will scare the fusk out of them. Because I care.

You're right, of course, and I should really try to better myself and resist falling into the same trap my base urges keep leading me into.

But ask yourself, Harvey, will you be able to say the same when it comes to soldiering the causes of Texas rap above and beyond the call of duty?

Yeah, that list is no surprise and there are songs on it I dig, but this shit? Does he have a cold? Is he speaking English? Is Down Syndrome rap a thing now? I don't know what the fuck is going on here.

HahHa that is hilarious. I like how he rubs his crotch and then the next shot is the kids head bobbing at the table and it sounds like he says
    "damn i won't get hard" ???

my take: cyborg drake w. an autotune implant in the nose - a basement full of sportscars and a million dollars in cash - but somehow mysteriously lives with his poverty stricken mom and baby sister roaming the schtreets.

And when Grok stood up, and finished picking the last piece of wooly mammoth flesh out of his teeth, he turned to Mung, and said "That was the best BBQ I've ever had". And Mung, having divested himself of a particularly tenacious flea, did reply "What, better than that rhino we found in the ravine on the night of the waxing moon? Better than the deer we ate after we had chased away the long-toothed cat?". And Grok's brow did crease even deeper so that his eyes were barely visible in the fading fire light, and after he had considered the legend on the wall, he replied "OK, it wasn't as good as either of those, but really, if the meerkat we had that was killed by stampeding musk oxen gets on the wall, and that was just road kill really, then this mammoth, including the trunk which I don't really like, deserves cave art all to itself".

This is like a poor man's Drop It Like It's Hot. Sure it works well, and Busta killed it, but best beat of 2011?
