Please to poast a rip! I just got that Le Jazz in Trinidad, and it does have some great mambo's. Last track on side A is great, too! (can't recall name right now)
Someone PLEASE sell me a copy of DIRTY JAZZ FROM DOWN SOUTH on COOK. I have serious cash for that.
Just remembered the two volumes of "This is latin jazz" that Baz fe Jazz compiled for BGP in the late eighties - some great tracks, and around for cheap!
I realize it's not latin jazz, but as long as latin music loving people are hanging out in this thread, I was wondering what people think of the Buena Vista Social Club.
On a side note about the Buena VIsta Social club, my buddy from grad school did his thesis on the globalization of cuban music. While he was living in Cuba, he interviewed Juan De Marcos Gonzalez, the conductor of the group. He was not happy with the deal they got and told my buddy that the documentary was pretty fictitious.

He's a known Jimmy McGriff apologist.
Shirley Scott's involvement tends to suggest that it is organ chud.
What's American Clave? ...music with a clave rhythm that's made in America?

It's the label that released that Jerry Gonzalez record.
Kip Hanrahan's label that did a mix of Downtown NYC/Arto Lindsay type stuff and Latin.
The second press on Rhumba is much more findable:
