There's a very strong RAM records/Photek/"Metropolis"-era Adam F influence there, which is a good thing, and he's thrown the kitchen sink in with just about every breakbeat-rave-synthstab combo ever used by anybody... I'd probably brokk-out to it in a club, but not sure I'd want to listen to it in any other scenario. And I dunno, Manga cartoon samples? Will check his LP though.b,121b,121The tune I liked most was the one following it, but maybe only because it was a nice moment of calm following the Arigami chaos. LD "Not Going To Cry"; aside from the slight whiff of cheesey house that the vocals bring, everything else was good. Elements of (good) UK Garage in there, wobbly sub-bass and interesting beat changes.b,121b,121b,121The most disappointing thing for me was the Mike Slott sequence - every tune was over-compressed beats and synths... no space, no textures, the overall impression I got was of TV static, punctuated by somebody rhythmically slamming the set in an effort to get some reception.b,121The GLK set was a bit poor compared to Spit On Your Grave, and as I haven't heard much from him production-wise, he's starting to sound like a one-trick DJ pony.

    font class="post"1b,121b,121fair fox, each to his own and that. Are you familiar with Mike's work as part of Heralds Of Change alongside Hudson Mohawke? Some of the most interesting hip hop/electronica to come out in a while.b,121b,121I thought this show was very good, mike's mix was great, up to standard with the very good performance of mary anne's show as late. If u haven't checked the Bullion and Hudson Mohawke specials or indeed the Hyperdub label special they are all worth your time.

    font class="post"1b,121b,121LV is definitely hotly tipped this year, after spending most of the last few years at Transition mastering, cutting dubplates and mastering some of the bigger tunes of the "dubstep" genre, which is where the "wobbly bass" bit comes in.

    b,121There are some good shows on Solid Steel, I think it has a certian eclectic sound you expect from it, my only gripe is a few too many sets by DJs using tools to cram 200+ tracks into an hour... really not neccesary imho. Some quick transitions are good, but show some faith in the records you're playing - give 'em some time to breath please.b,121b,121I won't argue with anything Shocklee says about hip-hop, or perceived 'ownership' of a sound. Londoners should be proud that a local niche has gone global.
