I had a bit of an incident at the Melbourne fair where A guy tried to steal $200 worth of psych records from me. I slapped him (open hand) in the side of the head and took his bag from him. He had $200 worth of other dealers stuff as well which I returned. The funny thing was he came back with a friend and wanted his bag back I kind of lost it and threatened to hospitalize both of them. I am 115kg and 188cm and train martial arts twice a week so they both realised from my demeanor I was for real and left.I later found that the guy had his empty wallet in the bag which contained his licence and credit cards. I just gave it to the organizer but i should have scanned his credit and got $200 off the prick as compensation for the stress it caused me.I know I have lost a few records to shoplifters over the years and can handle that but not in this quantity. It took a lot of self control to just slap the dude. My hand was a split second away from forming a fist and I had his earhole lined up for an open handed burst eardrum but pulled it away at the last moment and got the side of his facePlease share your shoplifting stories

Holmes was quoted as saying "let him have it" when interviewed about the song thievery in the '70's.

But legality isn't the point here with todays' post; I'm mostly fascinated that this incredibly non-commercial recording was even RELEASED as a 45 (the track is most famously found on the 1967 "Above Ground Sound Of Jake Holmes" LP)!
Morning. So, the thrilling combination of quitting smoking, stress at work and the kind of headcold that underlines just how serious man-flu can be has left me with what must be approaching chronic insomnia.

On the nightly trawls through iPhone apps that could possibly, but inevitably don't, assist me reaching slumberland I chanced upon some Ambient radio stations. While enjoyable, these stations seem to be generally playing the same mixture of old (Eno, Tangerine Dream, etc) and what was current when I dallied with the genre in the nineties (FSOL, Selected Ambient Works, Orb).

This got me to thinking - is there still a booming Ambient market today and, if so, any recommendations for what I should be checking out? I'm aware of some of the downtempo stuff on Triangle and the like as well as vapourware but neither of these cover the spacey/cinematic side of things which is what I always loved most about the proper electronic ambient experience. Basically I'm talking more trips to the cosmos and less panpipes in the rainforest.

Any genre recommendations to help my addled brain would be greatly appreciated as well as any tips about similar music I may have skipped over in my voyage to the stars.

Okay let's see if some of our childhood questions can be answered.... By watching these 2 movies who do you think would win and why? Who had better 1 liners? Which had a better soundtrack? And which one of them do you think had a better Record collection? I alway thought Commando had better 1 liners but who would actually win??? You see Rambo's attitude was bad ass but look what type of dude he fought nothing major... As for Commando he beat down that Marine, and even dudes from his platoon???? I will have to Say Commando but Rambo was bad ass with that knife!!! and Commando's one liners , classic "I Let Him GO"... What yall think? Or yall to cool fo school???

Was just reading the AV Clurb interview with dude from Third Rock (no diss - he's brilliant in Mysterious Skin and Brick) and noticed this:

AVC: You???ve talked in the past about preparing for shooting days by listening to character-appropriate music because it helps you shut out the chaos on the set. Did you do that here?

JGL: My preparation revolved less around music this time, and more around Bruce Willis??? voice. But there was some, yeah. I listened to a lot of Billie Holiday for this role. Also a song that???s in the movie, it???s called ???Powerful Love,??? this old soul record, and it???s on this great compilation called Eccentric Soul [Twinight???s Lunar Rotation] that Rian turned me onto at the time. It???s all these old dirty soul records that never made it on the radio. And a bunch of those songs were good.

http://www.avclub.com/articles/joseph-gordonlevitt-reveling-in-looper-hitrecord-a,85392/

Go Numero!

Anyway, also wanted to use the opportunity to praise Rian Johnson for Brick, which is a masterpiece IMO.

Haven't seen Brother's Bloom yet; anyone catch it? Thoughts?
