Well we had a great response last month from far and wide on not only the music but the recipe we featured so we have decided to include a few more to accompany the playlists. All good fun but we will continue to carry on focussing on the music too. I'll start with the music....JAZZ JAZZ JAZZ JAZZ JAZZ and more JAZZ! Been neglecting this genre lately so got stuck in with a whole hour of the beautiful sounds. Jazz from Italy, Poland, Romania, Hungary, the U.S. and the BRILLIANT 4 track EP, forthcoming on Impossible Ark Records from the Max Grunhard Quintet. MASSIVE THANKS to Hugo Mendez for sending that to us. As you will see, it's a who's who of top players and it does not let up there! The second hour starts off with more superb music from George Cables and The Fritz Pauer Trio. Mark touches on the soul - disco tip from the past with Anglo Saxon Brown and Milton Hamilton and also dips into the nu disco, french boogie tip too via Franck Roger & Oscar. Then, to round things off, there is a light dusting of happy Brazilian soul to aid digestion. Remember, there is also the limited download as well as the sites that air us so if you cannot be without us, download, save as, take us with you where ever you are! Be back in a couple of weeks. And if you do try the recipe or have your own, please feel free to mail us at happyjazz@hotmail.co.uk to let us know what you think. It's a simple one, using the basic ingredients so good for the wallet too. Goes well with a green salad and a Louis Jadot Chardonnay! Enjoy! Also want to mention a big Hi to Gary Malby. Check out his clothing range at www.gamaclothing.com. Does a nice range in T shirts and accessories! ** RECIPE TO ACCOMPANY THE SHOW **CHILLI CHEESE OMLETTE - Serves one person with 10 mins prep time. INGREDIENTS1 spring onion a few sprigs of fresh coriander 2 large eggs 1 tbsp sunflower oil ?? -1 tsp chopped fresh red chilli, or a generous pinch dried chilli flakes 25g mild grated cheddar INSTRUCTIONS1) Chop the spring onion and coriander quite finely and beat the eggs together with salt and pepper. Heat the oil in a small frying pan then tip in the onion, coriander and chilli and stir round the pan for a second or two so they soften a little. Pour in the eggs and keep them moving until two thirds have scrambled. 2) Settle the eggs back down on the base of the pan, scatter over the cheese and cook for about a minute until the omelette is just set and the cheese has melted. 3) Carefully fold the omelette using a palette knife and slide from the pan to a serving plate. Eat while the omelette is hot and the cheese still melted. NUTRITION PER SERVING381 kcalories, protein 22g, carbohydrate 0g, fat 33g, saturated fat 10g, fibre 0g, sugar 0g, salt 0.86g.
This is the next film in the FREE film series I program and host for the BMA... if you don't want to read the entire press release, it's a South Korean dark comedy from 2004.South Korean cinema has exploded with creativity over the past decade, and the BMA's Free First Thursdays Film Series gives you an opportunity to check out one of the most audacious, artful, and darkly comic voices of the Korean New Wave with its FREE 35mm screening of Hong Sang-soo's Woman Is the Future of Man (2004).The BMA screening takes place Thursday, August 2nd at 8 pm and is FREE for everyone. Many of us have thrilled at Korean cinematic exposts such as Oldboy (Park Chan-wook) and The Host (Bong Joon-ho) in recent years. Hong Sang-soo's work explores other corners of the South Korean cultural renaissance, with cerebral and biting work that has earned him comparisons to directors as diverse as Woody Allen and Michelangelo Antonioni.Indeed, his Turning Gate was my first exposure to Hong Sang-soo's work, billed at a Toronto Film Festival screening as the work of the "South Korean Woody Allen." The comparison isn't totally off base: most of Hong Sang-soo's work concerns itself with the tangled romantic lives of urban professionals, and his neurotic, chauvanistic, and self-absorbed main characters (often male film directors!) are often mistakeningly assumed to reflect the director's world view. But the comparison only goes so far. While Woman Is the Future of Man is rich with humor, its realism far surpasses Allen's -- and its laughs generally don't come from punchlines, but rather from wince-worthy observations about how we mistreat the people we love. There's also a sense of excitement about the possibilities of cinema in Hong Sang-soo's work which goes beyond Allen's.Some critics have described Woman Is the Future of Man -- a love triangle between a filmmaker, an art professor, and a bohemian waitress -- as a post-modern riff on Francois Truffaut's Jules and Jim. And while this film is perhaps not as gentle as much of Truffaut's work, it does channel some of the energy of the French New Wave, in that it signals the arrival of an exciting new master director on the international film scene.Don't miss this exceptional film!

Drunkards and Whores:Asprin and I are proud to tell you we are releasing the new album by Judith and Holofernes titled Abra??a a Tristeza. Judith and Holofernes are a band from San Francisco who play acoustic folk music inspired by traditional Portuguese ballads, known as fado. Melancholic, longing, solitary shit. For example:"Maybe Liqour, Maybe Blood"I call out at nightJust to push my luckIn the mood to fightOr maybe in the mood to fuckI call out at nightWarning of a floodIt may be liquor, it may be blood-- and --"Blessed Us with Reason"The sun shines down on our facesA cool breeze brushes our skinWe???re fewer than when we first startedBut we???re stronger than we???ve ever beenThe wounds have not healed wellBut the battle scars are beautifulReminders that we won???t do that againOr at least we hope so.----------The album is available through us for $10.It's full-length, available on CD and LPMore words, pictures, sounds, order info here:http://www.vanguardsquad.com/store/vgs004.phpVinyl enthusiasts/nerds should note this was pressed on pure black virgin vinyl. With jackets made by hand (and with love) in Portland, Oregon, using a letterpress and postconsumer waste, bloodred paper with eco-friendly silver ink. I happen to think it came out quite nice.A handful of strutter have suffered some good head from the Judith crew already, and we offer a mighty thank you to them for their support. Valeu a pena.Copies are slowly making it to stores and distributors, but we wanted to give y'all the first look. If you've ever been drunk and fucked someone you probably shouldn't have, you should check this record out. If you've ever buried a dear friend well before his time, you need this. If you sit sometimes wondering if people will remember you to be better than you were, then order this, please. If you've done all this, and much worse, yet still trudge on... then just pretend for a minute that I'm right. There's a longer thing I wrote about the band here:http://www.vanguardsquad.com/comrades/judith.phpAnd their website here:http://fadocore.com/Sweetness, please be safe,~Bam...for those that remember...
