  • what r u listen'n 2

Chico Science & Nação Zumbi were big into Sepultura:

but Sepultura was really into them too, Roots definitely bears the influence of their sound.

Legend has it that the dudes from The Prodigy were also into them, and their music was an influence on Fat of the Land. Not sure how much I believe that, although I could see them having passed through Brazil and listening to the band.

I just recently discovered Sadistic Mika Band, they have some stuff.

Didn't realize Masayoshi Takanaka was in that band, he's known in Brazil for all the covers he's done of Jorge Ben and Pepeu Gomes tracks, and for playing that crazy surfboard guitar.

RIP to Yukihiro Takahashi, his albums are constantly recommended to me by the Algorithm™

  • Question for the non-uk heads (hiphop-r)

I remember The Streets making an impact, at least in the sense that I was in high school and had friends listening to Original Pirate Material when it came out, and none of them were really into hip hop then.

I was into Roots Manuva when I lived in NYC in the early 00s.

Dizzee Rascal made an impact too, but I don't know how much of a purist you are in your definition of hip hop.

I think there was other UK hip hop around that time making waves because of trip hop and acid jazz
