It seriously depressed me to find out the Ted Cruz is younger than me. I would have bet my house that he was older.

It really boggles the mind that the next President could quite possibly be Trump.

Are there any Trump supporters on this site?

Kinda wish Rock still posted here so I could gain some possible perspective on the matter.

  • asstroasstro 1,754 Posts
Judging by Rock's FB posts he doesn't have any more clue about Trump's appeal than the rest of us.

My only thought is some people just wanna see the world burn.

I mean, we're talking about a guy who once took out an ad suggesting we bring back the death penalty and include children.

I have no doubt he will change his mind every three minutes on what he believes.

I'm not sure about this. Republicans hate the Clintons with a passion. They will be coming out in full force.

I'm willing to put money on this.

If Trump is the Republican nominee, Clinton will not win.

Her against any other Republican could be a win.

Sanders could beat Trump. But would have a tough time against Cruz.

I mean, it's possible. But I don't see how Trump is going to eat into any of the demographic groups that voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012, and now are going to vote for Clinton. The last two general elections weren't close, and politics have only become more divisive. Could Trump flip Florida? Maybe there's enough non-college-grad whites in Ohio to offset the African Americans to take that state? The same goes for any of the potential GOP nominees - didn't the Grand Ole Party even fund a study after 2012 that advised moving to the center, and then they only went further to the right? But, hey, who knows! I guess GOP primary voter turnout was like quadrupled or something in Virginia (a blue state the past two generals), so maybe the base is even more angry this time than four years ago?

I hope this is right.  However, if Trump is a general election candidate, we don't know what/who that will bring out of the shadows.  Might motivate a ton of non-voters to go out there and cast a ballot for Trump (Why? I have no idea).

For now, I just cling to charts like this and hope that they are accurate:

The way I see it, Bloomberg entering would pretty much guarantee a Trump win in the general election (assuming Trump clinches the GOP race).

Mitt Romney has announced that he will speak on Thursday in an appearance that's not an announcement of candidacy or an endorsement. What could it be?!?

He has confirmed it is neither candidacy or endorsement

Let's re-visit this thread come election time.

Right now I don't see a single Dem candidate stopping Trump's momentum. Popular GOP candidates like Cruz and Rubio are getting annihilated. The country does not like the current status quo, and that goes for both parties. Clinton represents the lobbyists and is more of a centrist than the naked socialist Bernie Sanders. Also I think the majority of the smart people Dem or Rep don't trust Hillary. If she gets indicted over the email thing, it's over unless Joe Biden throws his hat in the ring. Bloomberg? What's he going to do add an amendment to the Constitution banning carbonated soda? Lol

The bottom line is the American people in general want radical change from the same bought and paid for crony politicians on both sides. That's the only reason an extreme socialist or someone with zero political experience like Trump could be considered for POTUS.
If you live in the US and can't tolerate the possibility of Donald Trump winning you better get your passport ready lol

    VOTE OR DIE

    FROM NYT:
Democratic turnout has fallen drastically since 2008, the last time the party had a contested primary, with roughly three million fewer Democrats voting in the 15 states that held caucuses or primaries through Tuesday, according to unofficial election results tallied through Wednesday afternoon. It declined in almost every state, dropping by roughly 50 percent in Texas and 40 percent in Tennessee. In Arkansas, Alabama, and Georgia, the number of Democrats voting decreased by between a quarter and a third.

The fall-off in Democratic primary turnout — which often reveals whether a candidate is exciting voters and attracting them to the polls — reached deeply into some of the core groups of voters Mrs. Clinton must not only win in November, but turn out in large numbers. It stands in sharp contrast to the flood of energized new voters showing up at the polls to vote for Donald J. Trump in the Republican contest.

It takes a special sort of clueless to refer to weasels like Cruz and Rubio as "popular." Trump is pummeling a field of morons and creeps and that's about it.

"Americans" don't want radical change, for the most part.  Republicans want to beat up Negroes and Mexicans, like always.  Humans want a fairer society.  Is that so much to ask?

And all of the focus on Trump overlooks the fact that Cruz is much worse.  Texas is a giant lab dedicated to to perfecting human excrement and Cruz is the current cream of the crap.  He does not have a single redeeming feature.

We'll definitely have to wait and see.  I feel like folks are still mistaking GOP primary success with inevitable success in the general election and I still don't think it will translate.

Once Trump has to cater to more than the types of people who vote in GOP primaries (and the psychos he's motivating to vote for the first time), I think it will be the end of the line for him.

Furthermore, the demos that put Obama in office for both terms (the demos that pundits claimed are the future of getting into the White House) overwhelmingly have no interest in voting for Trump.

So...in my mind, the real question will be, can the Dems motivate people to come out and vote?  I think the prospect of a Trump Administration (that feels SO weird to type out, btw) will be more than enough of a motivating factor to get enough people to vote Democrat in the general election....even if they don't like Hillary....even if they hate Hillary.

Btw, if 2 or 3 GOP candidates dropped out right now...I think it would totally change the game for the republican primary race.

Someone in the office was mentioning there's actually a group of people who voted Obama in '08 and are going to vote Trump in '16, and I'm just assuming these are the types that also make week-to-week voting choices for The Voice.

Yeah.  That shit boggles my mind.  I genuinely want to see an interview of one of those people.

    Some interesting thoughts here.

Certainly he's doing better than expected, thanks mostly to the rest of the (R) field being much weaker and more ridiculous than expected. But from the primary results thus far, Trump's total share of the popular vote (and this is among hardcore (R) voters only) is... 34%.

That means despite all the hype, more Republican voters are voting against Trump than for him. Most of the rest is split between Cruz and Rubio. Kasich and Carson will be dropping out soon, and either Cruz or Rubio will be pressured to follow, probably whoever's trailing. My guess is this all happens within 2-3 weeks from now. My other guess is that the voters from the dropped candidates are more likely to defect to Rubio/Cruz than to Trump. Whether that will end up being enough for a lead remains to be seen, but the field isn't typically this fractured, so the outcome probably isn't as clear-cut as it seems now.

That's an important question, given the weak turnout so far. We've seen, repeatedly, that increased turnout consistently favors the (D) vote. It's why some states have gone to great lengths to make voting more difficult.

It's my contention that if we end up with President Trump, it will not be because "Americans are stupid" or any similarly lazy explanation... it will be because people who could have made a difference didn't care enough to do so.

No, and the Bloomberg admin should serve as a warning as to what happens when you choose a leader based on their wealth.

Plus, he would get positively destroyed in a Presidential race.

Ha.  That's Kurt Metzger.  He's fucking hilarious.  You should check his special (White Precious) out.  It's my favorite comedy special from the last couple of years.

    Here is a DailyMotion link to it: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3pv10v_kurt-metzger-white-precious-2014_shortfilms ;

I think a lot of the new voters that are coming out to support Trump have that feeling and he is purposefully wording things so he doesn't lose their support.

When the David Duke endorsement for Trump came out, I couldn't help but be reminded of how outraged folks were about the Pastor at Obama's church saying "God Damn America" at a service that was recorded...Obama literally had to VERY publicly denounce him and his Church AND he had to give one of the most amazing speeches on race I've heard since my history classes on civil rights....and even that wasn't enough for some people to "get over it"...I am 100% certain that the same people that were outraged with Obama's affiliation with that Pastor aren't the least bit pissed off about David Duke endorsing Trump and him kinda'sorta "denouncing" it.
