Seems like since there are Mad Men and Breaking Bad threads, there ought to be a Game Of Thrones one.

Are strutters watching?

  • I didn't watch it when it first came out, but a friend of mine was hyping the beginning of the second season so much that I had to watch the entire first season. I ended up watching that entire season in one weekend. Absolutely LOVE this show. So many great family stories involved.

But because I don't have HBO, I have to watch the episodes online a few hours later. So I tend to avoid my other friends who are fans of the show out of fear that they might spoil the episode for me.

This nerd right here watches it.

I just finished the first season and am getting into the new one. I really like it. Soft porn, but I ain't mad at that.

One of HBOs best so far... and then says a lot.

There's an old thread discussing the first season somewhere. The main complaint seemed to be that there weren't enough fantasy elements. If they stuck with it, they must be satisfied now?

They're great stories, I heartily recommend reading the books if you're enjoying the tv show. It's interesting seeing how they've condensed the story for the show.

  • This last Sunday was so dark! There were like 8 torture scenes!!! Tyrion Lanister just keeps getting better and better though. Every episode this season he has a new trick up his sleeve.

JOFFREY DA GOD IS THE BEST CHARACTER ON THE SHOW

Peter Dinklage is really carrying this show on his tiny little back.

Some of the supporting cast is starting to get very boring. I'm really missing the leading roles that Sean Bean (Ned Stark) & Jason Mamoa (Kahl Drogo) played. They brought a lot to the show, and I'd rather have strong interesting characters then more CG fantasy dragon bullshit.

I also would like to point out how beautiful and fun the Shae character is played by Sibel Kikelli. Very unfortunate about her film history though. She's a very talented girl and hopefully this show will prove her as a good actress, and people will be able to look beyond her adult films. The internet seems to have a way to never forget about anything (even just now her Google image search is filled with cumshots).

I've never been into any fantasy stuff really, unless you count the late 80s Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe series. I only checked out GoT because so many people were writing about it on facebook etc. and I think because it didn't have too much fantasy at first it helped me get into it more.

    Tyrion is amazing.

Joffrey's probably the character I've hated more than any other in a series ever. What a horrible little c-bomb.

I think Arya Starks and Jon Snow will have interesting storylines going forward, maybe not in this series as much but maybe in the next.

Also as a Brit, it's nice to see a few familiar actors and a lot of British actors in a show of this size.

Also I'm not mad at all the tit shots.

    You'll like Qarth then.

There is a fair amount of it in the books but for the most part it's pretty integral to the story / character. HBO have added a little, it seems to be one of their go to devices / short cuts to develop a character's story.
The scene from the last episode with Joffree and the whores isn't in the book but he does degrade his teenage bride Sansa more viciously in the books, not something you can do with a real teenage actress.

I watch the show and enjoy it for the sword and superfluous titty extravaganza that it is, but let's not pretend this is quality television. Aside from some solid acting, the writing and character development is plodding at best. Consider the clumsy plot advancement through stilted and speeches from the pimp and various other characters. This is like crack for 14 year old boys, or guys like me that can't say no to camp and superfluous titties.

    Couldn't really disagree more.

If you were talking about something like Spartacus on Starz, I would take what you're saying about it being "crack for 14 year old boys" as that show as well written as it is, as good as it is, is still all about the fighting and f*cking. To level that accusation at GoT is just way off IMO. There's very little actual fighting in it, it's more implied. And whilst there may be naked ladies in it, there's also some incredibly strong female characters in the show, the likes of which just don't exist in most tv shows. The books, and now the show, have both won awards and garnered praise, so if this isn't quality tv I don't know what you think is.

After finishing series 2, I've decided this is total TV crack. Gotta read the books now.

Gutted it's finished but at least it's only a few weeks till Breaking Bad...

I watched the show every week. A the same time, some of the episodes were a bit plodding. Second season was definitely better than the first, and I loved the ending of season 2 as well. 2nd season also started off a little slow, and get better at the end.

I'd definitely agree that the pace varies a lot, but even the slowest episodes move a lot faster than series 1 of Mad Men, which i'm struggling with...there were times in Breaking Bad where the pace slowed right down too. And with Game Of Thrones particularly, i found the slower the episode, the more points of conversation there were.

Just trying to figure out which 2 of the girls in it I'd most like to have a menage a trois with...

  • had two days off and i body bagged season one.

    good show.

while GOT is far from the best show on TV, the Lannister midget may be the best character on TV.

    I ride for this show.

I never understood the "slow moving" or "plodding" criticisms...
what the hell does that even mean?
You only like shows that move fast?
So many great shows, and movies, one could say "plod".

And if GOT isn't the best tv show on right now, it's gotta be close.
    What's better?
    Mad Men?
But that show is so slow.
(haha, see, I just did it)

  • i'll let it go head to head with breaking bad.

but few shows are fucking with GOT for production value.

breaking bad = murder + crime + drugs
game of thrones = murder + treachery + dragons

say what you will about the story/characters/writing/whatever, but no one is fucking with Boardwalk Empire for production values, not even GOT.

Been a long time George R. R. Martin fan Game of Thrones has been a lot of fun for me. Even having read the books (series is still unfinished, Mr. Martin had a bout of writers block) I have thoroughly enjoyed the TV adaptation.

Word of advice, don't get too attached to characters in any of Martin's stories, like Joss Whedon, he is not shy about killing a character to bring a lot of dramatic tension to the fore.

Tyrion was a pimp in the books and Peter Dinklage has made him one of the most interesting characters to watch since Omar in The Wire.

    I ride.

I think they're both great. You could argue that BE is simply recreating a small period, of one small geographical area, of fairly recent American history. Where as GOT has created several worlds, spanning different continents and everything in the show is created from a mix of GRRM's imagination and the creative talent working on the show. And it's a lot easier to do the former.
But I don't really see what's gained by one having to be declared better, they're both great. Both are beautifully detailed shows that are also totally immersive. I'm just grateful that we can have such rich, well produced, television shows. It wasn't that long ago that 24 came out and it was a big deal the a 'movie star' was in the main role. Now we have tv shows with production values to rival most movies, which any serious actor would be only too happy to appear in.

these are hilarious. the breaking bad an walking dead ones are equally as good.

  • me liking this show kind of sandbagged me considering im not even remotely a fan of fantasy or sci-fi stuff. but i dig it and dig it deep. it's equal parts braveheart and rome.

so long as they can keep dragons and goblins out of the plotline, or at least not become dependant on magic and shit to drive the story, ill be happy as a clam.

  • Supposed to be excellent but sounds a bit too dungeons and dragons for me.

was the reason for my hesitance as well. my sister really liked it, and she has an actual hobbit house in her backyard and likes Dune and... like anime and wizards and shit... but conversely, she also gave me copies of deadwood, black mirror and old boy....

it's not completely devoid of fantasy, but through season one at least, it's presence is tempered greatly.

yeah it's much more kings, queens, intrigue than dragons and magic.
