so...I can't remember where I first heard of this...but it was brought to my attention because one of the things the site does is allow supposed active military in Iraq and Afghanistan to post explicit pictures of dead, wounded, explosions, etc. As it turns out, the ORIGINAL intent of the site - from what I understand - was for people to post pictures of their ex-girlfriends (or current ones I suppose), like a revenge site for pissed off people. A couple of things that arise out of all this for Strutter consumption:1) it's interesting that the site doubles as both a repository for sexual pornography and what you might call "war pornography", though in the latter case, some of it is literal, with active duty military posing for pictures that get posted to the site. Says much about the intertwinings of sex and violence in our visual media culture, no?2) The person who runs this site has recently been arrested and charged with 300 misdemeanors, mostly stemming from obscenity charges. I neither agree nor disagree with this crackdown though I will say, I find his site's purpose distateful but that's purely a personal opinion, not a legal one.3) I spend a lot of time trying to wrap my head around the internet and what's it's wrought on our daily culture and society. I'm not trying to be mega-philosophical here but for those of you who are old enough to remember the time BEFORE the internet (which truly feels like a long, long, long life time ago), it's exceptionally strange at times to see what new practices, ideas and conventions have become into play that simply could not have existed before. Seriously fam, I dwell on this shit all the time. Sometimes, I wish I were a younger man, so that I had no memory of what came before 1995 or so. Dudes, 1995. I mean, c'mon. I'm saying. Discuss

On the burned up Iraqi tip - On one hand, regardless of their background, I think that's kind of disrespectful to the dead & their families. On the other hand, you're giving a real view of war to those who want to see it. It puts a human spin on this situation; I think it makes it harder for rednecks and diehards to just say, "FUCK THEM, THEY SHOULD NUKE THE WHOLE FUCKING MIDDLE EAST." There are plenty of regular people there, too.
I say that especially given the American media's penchant for leaving these types of gory yet necessary details out of most newscasts.

Actually, if you read the article, it goes on to say that he was offering free porn access to anyone who could prove that they were in the military. He accepted any type of proof, and any type of photographic evidence. It was up to the soldiers to choose what they sent in.
Just so happens a lot of them sent in that type of stuff.
The juxtaposition of naked girls and the most horrific mutilations leaves me a little nauseous. No doubt this site is ripe for critical analysis, but I'm not the one to provide it. Right now, I'm content with merely thinking shit is fucked up. I really can't deal with blown-apart people and partying swedish girls simultaneously. You know, maybe sex and violence is our lowest common denominator. I guess that's not terribly inciteful; what is more essential than life and death? Still, presented together so crudely it upsets my pretensions and leaves me reeling.
