Sunday, May 8th, Konzeptlos@Kaschemme presents:

Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band (Ghana)

There are times when the world needs beautiful music and this is certainly one of them. Few genres of music can bring a smile to a listener‘s face more quickly than highlife. Few highlife singers have a voice as uniquely powerful and resonant, yet silky sweet as the ‘Golden Voice Of Africa, Ghana’s all-time great vocalist and “first rock star”, the legendary Pat Thomas.
Born in 1951 in Agona in the Ashanti Region, as a teenager he began to study to play the guitar and the drums. In 1971 he moved to Accra to join Ebo Taylor’s legendary Highlife Band ‘the Blue Monks’. Only three years later he formed the ‘Sweet Beans’, whose core members later formed ‘Marijata’, one of the best African funk bands. Marijata backed him up on several productions, delivering the uniquely raw & funky sounds we like so much. 1978 he was voted as ‘Mr. Golden Voice of Africa’. In the 80s he changed his sound into a more disco/highlife/reggae influenced direction. He was restless, in 1990 he moved to Canada where he began teaching at the University in addition to playing and recording. His 1991 released album ‘Sika Ye Mogya’ won the ‘Album of the year’ award in Ghana.
Fast forward to early 2015, Pat Thomas teamed up with the Kwashibu Area Band and released his first album in over a decade. The album was recorded in Accra and features legends like Tony Allen, Ralph Karikari and even Pat’s daughter Nanaaya, a celebrated vocalist in her own right.
Konzeptlos@Kaschemme is proud to present ‘the brand new studio album Tour’ by Pat Thomas. The new album was recorded early this year in Accra in conjunction with the Kwashibu Area Band led by Ghanaian musician / producer Kwame Yeboah (Cat Stevens band, Patrice) and Ben Abarbanel Wolff (Poets Of Rhythm, Ebo Taylor band).
„With this album, we wanted to continue the tradition of the sound from the late ‘70s and bring the roots back so we have treated some of Pat’s ‘80s songs with new arrangements,” explains bandleader Ben Abarbanel Wolff.
