Plaese to recommend music from Finland

What's good? I'm partial to heavier rhythm sections but I'm curious to check out what (if any) selections people might recommend. I'm a quarter Finn and love music, but realized recently that I know zero about music from Finland. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I have a mix CD with a bunch of Finnish stuff on it that a friend made for me. When I get home I'll try to dig it up and give you some of the tracks and groups on it.

For jazz, the late Jarmo Savolainen was great on keys. Most of his 90s stuff is worth picking up, esp. "First Sight". He died quite young, shame as he had great touch.

I went a while back and hooked up with Pirkka from mixoftheweek, there was a good house scene back then and there was an act call Nuspirit Helsinki which put out some nice deep stuff, if that's your bag.

Always wanted to go there (Helsinki) after seeing "The Billion Dollar Brain". Great city.

    The Leningrad Cowboys?

well, they're mostly a joke band. But Aki Kaurismaki's films are awesome, they make me assume everyone in Finland just deadpans their way through life.

Mini posted Grandma's rocking chair already I think, that whole record is awesome. Ahvenlati did this one as well, which is fantastic, I believe you can find rips on the intrawebs.

Finland had a pretty big and influential hardcore/punk scene back in the 80's if you are into that stuff. Finnish bands tend toward the drunken noisy chaotic end of the punk spectrum, key bands were Rattus, Terveet K??det, Tampere SS, Kaaos, worth a look on youtube if you're interested.

Jimi Tenor's new album with Kabukabu is worth checking out.

Dalindeo is a good example of new Finnish jazz.
