Bboy break suggestions

My band, Dopamine flux, is going to do a set of 15 of the hardest uptempo BBOY breaks we can think of..

I'm selecting them right now just wondering if anybody had any good suggestions. I really don't care if it's old or new, or if the band exists now... Doesn't necessarily have to be rare. We just want funky, a little weird, or challenging.. So, please STRUT reccomendations, regardless if you think we can pull it off or not.

These aren't final yet, but so far this is where i'm at..:

J.J. Johnson - Across 110th street

The Boris Gardiner Happening - Melting pot

Niteliters - K jee & Drumology

Mongo Santamaria - What you don't know

Incredible bongo band - Bongo Rock

Soul Searchers - Blow your whistle

The Chefs - Mr. Machine

Carleen and the groovers - Can we rap

James Brown - You gotta have a mother for me

Kashmere stage band - Kashmere

Eddie Bo - Hook and sling

Lafayette Afro Rock Band - Hihache

Dexter Wansel - Theme from the planets (Sped up version)

Eric B. and Rakim - Juice - Know the ledge

Babe Ruth - The Mexican

Jimmy Castor bunch - It's just begun

Yellow Sunshine

George Benson - Water Brother

Seems to be a mixture of "breakbeatz" and bboy breaks. Which are you goin for?

most obvious ommission is "rock creek park" by the blackbyrds

and over the years i have become a fan of Wu-Tangs "uzi" as a b-boy track, realizing later on that it is J.J. Johnson's "parader strut" that gets credit for the beat really....

  • better yet.... take songs that arent bboy oriented.... and make them into bboy jams.
much more interesting than covering a song that already does the same thing. what a cover should be imo.

That'd be kinda cool actually, take em and "uptempo em."

We could do that, but the point of this excercise is really to:

    a. see if we can pull them off with our new horn section

    b. Play tracks the dancers will recognize

agreed. try to avoid stuff which they've covered, but learn from how they cover it.

Has no one mentioned Apache yet??? or is that just cos it's too obvious?

The OG? It's all chopped samples IIRC, so are you talkin about the horns? Not sure where he got those. Drums are "Apache", "Well, Have a Nice Day" & "Jam On The Groove".

    He scratches this:

Thanks for all of the suggestions fellas. I'm working with the horn players now to figure out what songs we'll be able to do or not.

    Sup Mordecai,

Hm.. not sure if we're going to be able to properly record this set or not. If I can figure out a way to buy more tape reels, soon. Then it's definitely a possibility. I'll keep you all posted.

Aren't they Marva Whitney's "It's My Thing" nicely chopped up?
