Genres?

Hey everyone,I'm in the middle of preparing my literature review for a thesis I will hopefully have done by the end of the year. My project is looking at dubstep music (a recent club music for those not in the know) and how it has made it's way to Japan, more specifically using it as an example of how "scenes" are created around music genres in Japan.Right now I am looking at literature regarding genres and musical categorization as I must make the case that dubstep is a genre of it's own and worth researching.I was wondering what you guys/ladies thought of genre-naming and what constitutes a genre? A lot of what we do as record collectors/enthusiasts revolves around pigeonholing records in categories so I'd love to hear what the Strut thinks.Bonus question, what are some of your pet peeve genre names.. I do not believe in or condone "progressive house".
