    thats the last farrels in cali. mission valley in san diego. is there one in wa still?

I know there were at least three in Honolulu when I was growing up, and they opened one up a few years ago at one of the shopping centers.b,121b,121But I had seen that one in San Diego in the "So Wrong, They're Right" documentary:b,121b,121b,121It made me wonder if there were still any around, and that was awhile back. Glad to know they're still around. I think if I ate that much ice cream in one sitting, I'd be put into a coma.

    b,121b,121b,121There used to be one in East Brunswick NJ. I remember travelling to Cali in the mid-70s and being surprised to see them out there.

    im almost positive that is the last one in cali. i think it may even be the last one in the continental us, but im not sure.

    b,121b,121Man your post is bringing back memories. I grew up next to the Farrell's pictured above (on 16th in NE Portland, now a condo high-rise). Farrell still oversaw those stores. He had them rocking everyday, like a pre-teen studio 54. In fact, they had a velvet rope you waited behind. Pretty much every neighborhood birthday was held there for years. The Zoo was the shit. 30 something scoops of ice cream, a gallon of chocolate sauce. b,121b,121Dee, did you ever eat a pig's trough? I think it was 7 scoops. If you ate it yourself, you got a ribbon and had to announce you'd "made a pig of yourself" to the entire restaurant. the candy store near the cashier was like a kids version of heaven. b,121b,121 b,121b,121On Halloween, my friend's mom had a crazy haunted front porch. When we helped her out, she'd take us to farrell's afterward. It was the only night of the year when no one was there.

    Please believe I always WANTED the pig troft but my parents would never let me order it!!! I remember though if you did get one and eat the whole thing then they would make a big announcement and a marching band would come out and play a big drum and dance around the restaurant!!!

    b,121b,121Exactly. I never had it, and going in there felt as if it was some special event, which for a lot of us meant having to put on shoes and pants (opposed to just shorts and slippers). Looking back, I don't know if it was because they wanted me to look decent, or they didn't want me to "make ass" out of them.b,121b,121The one I went to the most was the one that was in Ala Moana Shopping Center on the ground floor (ocean side). There was also one in Pearlridge Shopping Center, which felt high mucky-muck because according to my mom and dad, "that's where the high mucky-muck go", when in truth it was a hassle for my dad to drive over five miles to shop and/or eat. Oh, but he would drive around the island for a car part or to sell a bag. If the bag sold (and often it did), we would go to Farrell's AND maybe get a box from Leonard's not only on payday, but maybe Saturday.b,121/a1b,121b,121On Sunday, a box of French donuts, Long John's, chantilly puffs:b,121b,121b,121and maybe, if there was just enough, some pancake mix to make for breakfast.b,121b,121Get ready, we're going to bust out the bass drum.b,121/a1b,121/a1b,121/a1
