there are different orig. country pressings of the first two LPs - I'm pretty sure their New Orleans Project one was first issued by Polydor in the US, and later on Barclay in various european (UK, Germany, France,...) and even south american countries.but what about the second one "They call us wild" -was it ever released in the US? or is the french Barclay the original, like the Lafayette Afro-Rock Bands Soul Makossa? I know there are some european and also a canadian release.I'm sure somebody knows

oh come on, what about the scratched one at the wall of your favorite NOLA record store priced at $250 or something.

  • Yes, right next to the "Doin Our Own Thing" priced at,
what is it, $350? Out of pure curiosity, I asked to
look at it one day, and there is a ciggie burn in the
    middle of side A.
    A bargain!!!!

If the "Big One" ever comes to NOLA and the F.Q. gets
flooded with 8 feet of sewer water, I'm gonna rent
some scuba gear and a crowbar and str8 clean "Mr. Dick"
    right the hell out!

haha... harsh words. I will admit that my patience is running thin over there.

Let's see, G copy of Joe Bataan - Singing Some Soul - Well this is a $300 record but we can talk about it.

VG copy of Joe Bataan - Salsoul - We would ask $75 for this.

VG copy of Doug Lucas Niara - $75.

oh yes, and the 45 I found buried in a pile of unsleeved crap- $95.

i used to bring in good trade material for those guys but what's the point.

  • i used to bring in good trade material for those guys but what's the point.Ah yes. So, how did it feel? A bit like chopping off your
    own arm, no?
I have dealt with Dick and co. for many years. Nothing will ruin
your day more than a visit to this place.
Actually, I have to sort of respect the hustle.
You see the prices, and you can't possibly imagine anyone
paying them. One day, I'm in there for the better part of
an afternoon, and I saw homeboy sell a G+ 1st Meters lp
to a freunch tourist for $200, and then another tourist comes
in and gets the Irma Thomas Soul Queen of NO for $100!!!
Preying on ig'nant tourists is a cash cow.

Oh, and that Naria was mine, traded it for some 12's.
I still can't wash that taste out of my mouth...

i've dealt with them for quite some time too. used to bring records down to trade every time i visited new orleans. but seriously have lost my patience at this point. i'm taking a hiatus. the reality is that the time could be spent better making a trip out of town and actually finding better records for 1/100th of the price.

  • I played a little game at said joint when I was visiting there 2 weeks back. I'd find an LP and say to myself "what's the highest I can remember this selling for" then turn it over and look at the price (cuz they're on the back). In every case it was twice what the number I was thinking of. And why do I have to trip over boxes in there? if I'm paying twice what I should I shouldn't have to trip over shit.

  • See, that's the secret to that place.
They are totally making all their money
on ignorant tourists. The owner flat out
told me that he prices everything at least
double the value, beceause every week at least
one ignorant tourist comes in and drops loot.

He has no interest in your, mine or any other knowledgable
persons buisness. Why sell 10 records to you for
$200 when he can sell 2 of the same records for $200
    to some ignorant tourist?

Really, that place is banned in my mindgarden.

Oh man, that place is so sad.
Did you get a chance to look at the "Golden Book"
where they list all the raers?
    Truly amazingly sad.

I take it you have been dissapointed by
    Goldmine in Biloxi as well.
The A-1 Flea in Biloxi has been good to me tho.

only been to goldmine once... but i quite liked it. the lady who ran it was super nice and it was a blast looking through there. found some nice things, nothing mindblowing but worth the trip. plan on heading back out that way in the next few weeks when i have the time. feel free to jump on board if you're up.

A-1 flea... which one is it... i think i went to that one, but maybe not. I went to two of 'em closer to gulfport. menge road which i liked and one in a dirt lot that was a sorry sight... thought that was a-1.

I saw a Barclay issue in Germany for 30 euro. I considered, then put it back.

    Good price.

  • I have a UK copy on barclay, unscratched for $ 150 Ha!

And yes, on a dirt plot, just look for the chickens for sale.
It's been a while, but there was an old geezer with 3 teeth in
his head that has/had really good wax, $1 each.
I got tons of G. Merchants, B. Notes etc...
Almost everything there is affected with the dreaded
AdvancedStageSwampMoldVirus, but the wax is minty.
I would def. be up for a Goldmine visit. Lemme know.
