Well, I sold my father's comic (as referenced in this thread), and I need your help - the winner is a low-number (but 100%) winner from Portugal. I did not anticipate this development. I am a first-time seller. What is the preferred lock-and-key confirmed shipping method (consider the closing bid of $3,910.50)? Fed Ex? UPS? USPS?The eBay listing is here. I hope that I'm not being scammed here; the man's only been on eBay since this May, but has a few decent money books under his belt with good respective feedback. The 2nd-highest bidder is in the states and has perfect feedback. This is my father's book, and he needs this money because of his poor health and a rocky financial situation. In short: I cannot screw this up. Please help me out as soon as possible. Any information you have would be appreciated.

i would do it fed x-signature and insured for the full amount which the buyer pays for
i would get the money wired direct to my bank account and bypass paypal or a bunch of western union money orders

    So "wired" = a bank-to-bank transfer?

yep. just pull out no stops here.....spend the dough - it's worth it (well, it's his dough...so it's really worth it).

  • cosigning on the above - take whatever steps necessary to ensure you get the $$ and he gets the comic in a safe as possible way. Good luck!

I'm just hoping that he doesn't balk at the price (I'm seeing $150+ right now for Fed Ex) and start pitching a fit.

Any other tips (esp. as it relates to Portugal) are welcomed.

UPS is fine. As far as I know, paypal will honor all delivery confirmations from either UPS or FEDEX. Call up paypal and tell them your situation.
    Pay for insurance too.

If you go with fedex and use insurance, which, you would want to do, the buyer will likely have to pay a heavy customs fee for a $4k item. You better talk that over with him to make sure he understands that and that he might want to get an estimate so he knows what to expect. Since he paid $4k for a comic book, he's probably got some money so paying $100 for shipping probably won't be a big deal for him.

You might also want to check if you need to put an invoice or some kind of statement in the box with the comic... at Fed-Ex they once made me put a statement that the records I was shipping contained no pornography among other things.

Good luck, glad you got some good $$$ for it in a relatively short amount of time.

best wishes and congrats by the way, you got %150 of guide value for a 5.0. CGC does make a big difference on key books. ($2625.00 guide 5.0 vs $3900 sale).

Well, now I'm worried. The buyer got back to me today (after a day with no communication) and slaps me in the face with this loose glove of an e-mail:

Hello.I am sorry to ask this of you but would you please send me 1-2 pics (preferably dated) of the item to my gmail account. The reason for this is that I was very close to being scammed 2 weeks ago on ebay for a copy of Amazing Fantasy 15 CGC 4.0 signed by Stan Lee. Thanx to the watchful eye of ebay, the transaction didn't go through as I was warned in time. I mean no offense by my request, I hope you understand my position.
P.S. I have no means of internet access at home as my house is new and the Telco company has not as of yet set up communications. My only access is at the office so I will only be able to get back to you on Monday morning.
    Regards.

This is after I told him my shipping rates (including the FedEx signature international rate of $175 - customs rates are murderous on $4K). No mention of that, but excuses aplenty. Should I go to the second chance bidder? What fees do I incur if I do this? Could he hit me with (my first) negative feedback?

I wouldn't be freaking out if this business wasn't done completely for my father so he could pay off his post-due medical bills. Please help me out, folks.
