GENTLE MUSIC: The New Yacht-Rock?

In less than 24 hours the term "gentle" has caught on in countless posts/threads like it was an already established genre (or is it?). And as far as I can tell, it's just music in any category that isn't abrasive. By Wednesday I fully expect somebody to start posting a "gentle" music mix (it's probably being burned as I speak).Just sayin'. In the words of Arkansas Red, I ain't crackin', I'm just FACKIN'.

    I thought gentle was already established. I didn't think I was originating something. Though I'll gladly take credit for it :lol:

    i listened to astral weeks for the first time yesterday. it was kind of like getting an enema with a tahitian vanilla bean. sweet and rough but under the auspice of gentle. my monspubis still shows signs of flaring.

    Gentle is a very delicate word.

    Sealed Neil Young On The Beach is gentle. I'm having grippers remorse and it is making me feel less gentle.

    this talk of gentle is confusing me.

    when I think 'gentle' I think of, say Roger Nichols & the Small Circle of Friends

    'On the Beach' isn't gentle, it's a total downer.

    there's a difference.

    I like some pretty swishy stuff, but I've never been able to get into Millennium and Sagittarius and all that. It's not terrible though.

    this girl I was flatmates with had a Canadian boyfriend who was waaay into the Millennium.

    he walked really swishy, but that may have just been because of his tight hipster pants.

    he was also a wimp who blowdried his hair & was afraid of housepets, driving, germs, you name it.

    this created a bad association for me w/ anything Boettcher related.

    he also liked that Colin Blunstone solo lp.

    what about the Left Banke?

    gentle?

    If those Gilles Peterson playlists aren't gentle, then Norah Jones has hair on her teeth. If they had had smooth jazz radio back in 1974, then Peterson would have been the program director.

    I am certain that I love music that has gentle qualities, just as I am certain that I hate everything about any music that would be categorized as capital-G 'Gentle'.

    Please, stop this madness.
