i bought a pretty shitty james brown produced 45 last night... I'm thinking there might have been more than one guy with that name in 60s. Perhaps "James H Brown" and titles "Tear in my beer" b/w "18 wheels to the road" shoulda been some sorta indication

    now I'll play:

Blind Man Can See < funkiest song ever. i always play air drums to it when in my car
The Drunk < i always hum this bassline in my troubled little brain

    and

    Funky Drummer < Heard this?

Thats gooooood. I saw that 7 in a crate upstairs in my local trading post and they wanted about 30 quid for it, it was even pressed slightly off centre, so I thought feck it and switched the price tags with a moudly kim wilde 45.

You'd think the dude at the till would have picked up on it, but nope!

    Man,

This is a HAAAAAAAAARD question, indeed. I guess I'll go with these:

-"World (Part 1 and 2)" (from the LP "It's a New Day So Let a Man Come in"; it's so dramatic, yet funky).

-"Cold Sweat" (from the LP "Cold Sweat"; I love the energy of this jernt).

-"Licking Stick" (from the LP "Sex Machine"; this such a tight groove, I play it all the time).

    Peace,

not all time for ever and ever, but right now, i'll say
    1. popcorn - love the bassline
    2. king heroin - love the melancholy
    3. the label on my 45 for this next song is just shredded, so i don't even know the song's name..but it does say "sometimes! i think i love you a little too much" it's a scorcher - what's it called?

  • Mo Peas
    Popcorn

and whatever dudes... I'll say it... SEX MACHINE

I reckon Cold Sweat has to contain the most expressive 'Ughhh' of James Browns entire career, between the 3rd and 4th beat of the first instrumental break.

Knocks me on my keister every daign time. Always hits you out of nowhere......... UGHHH!!!!

Honky Tonk Popcorn - Bill Doggett

I got the 7" on king the other day.

Its a mutha. Think I prefer the other side with Honky Tonk.

    Honky Tonk.ram

Almost wanna snap it in half so I can play both sides at the same time, its that good.

that bass/drum lick on Honky Tonk is unbeatable, but I gotta take the guitar lead on Popcorn over the organ on HT...

Very true, its a decision and a half.

Also, gotta give mention to 'Corner Pocket' on the LP. Another noteworthy mutha!

I got it for the Kim Wilde price of 3 quid cause of the switch.

I wonder if anyone bought the Kim Wilde 7 for 30.00?

It makes me sea sick when I play it - but in a funky way.

Man, I like James Brown. Here are a few that are better than some others, for me, right now, off the top of my head:
I Can't Stand Myself (When You Touch Me)
    It's A Man's World
    Cold Sweat

I saw him live a few times in the early 80's. This one show was in the club lounge of a Chinese resturant called Lung Fungs (or Funk). Here are 3 live favorites:
At Lung Fungs he did It's A Man's World. The song seemed to go for ever, most of the time was spent on his knees begging for someone to help him.

Night Train from the TAMI Show

The Live At The Apollo LP, which is esentially one song.
